Music Musings

Can you sense what I'm aiming at with this song? In exactly one week Sabrina is officially a working gal and I'll be handing in my thesis. AAW YEAH! Oh and 2013 is almost over or something, right? I couldn't let this year end without some good old Beyoncé, now could I. The best day of this year revolved around her.

It was May 15th. All around Belgium people where asking themselves one question: 'Is she going to perform tonight?' Devastated as I was from the cancellation one night before, I was fervently hoping she would throw in the towel today as well since poor old me didn't have a ticket. Of course karma kicked me in the butt and soon news started spreading that Queen B was going to perform her second concert as planned. F*ck. At that stage I started panicking, nothing was known about our cancelled concert and I was leaving for Scotland until the end of June. When a friend told me about last minute crappy tickets, I immediately rushed to Teleticketservice's site. After some doubting and nerve-racking attempts at buying a ticket, I succeeded! I was going to see Miss Knowles after all. When I got to the concert hall and went to my seat aaaaaall the way in the upper tribune and almost behind the stage, something in me awoke. I wanted, nay needed, a better seat and so my mission started. First I ran into some unhelpful women that snapped at me that no places were being filled up, yeah like that's convincing. Then, when I was already about to give up, I overheard an important-looking man talking about empty seats to his phone. Hold on a minute! I stopped the man and started rambling about how I missed the concert the day before and that I was leaving the country, that I bought tickets through Beyoncé's fan club (emphasizing my adoration) , that I was there all alone, ... I was on fire! The man said that he was going to see what he could do and that I should return to my seat. So I did. After what seemed like forever the lights went out and the music started (put on for full dramatic experience). This was it, the show had begun. Then, all of a sudden I saw a silhouette emerging from the dark, waving at me with a white wristband in hand. 'Come, we have to be quick' the important man shouted, 'I have a seat for you in the Bey Stage'. My heart stopped and I blubbered something like 'What, are you serious? Thank you so much!' while I ran as fast as my trembling legs could go. Entering the Bey Stage was on of the most glorious moments of my life. I was only meters away from a stage on which Beyoncé was going to walk and sing later that evening (!). Yes,  still a couple of meters away. I wasn't going to stop now, I wanted to get right next to that damn stage. *Enter K3's Josje* When the organization recognized Josje, they offered her seats next to the stage and high on adrenaline as I was, I just took my coat and followed her. I could pass off as Josje's entourage any day. The rest of the evening was but a dream..

Let's just say that my voice should never be blasted out of any sound system ever again, that I know how Beyoncé's iconic blue suit feels like, and that I snapped my most favourite Instagram picture ever. HIHIHI!

Cheers!
Naomi, x

PS: Josje, if you're reading this, sorry again for screaming your ears off.
PPS: I totally came back from Scotland for the weekend to attend Beyoncé's rescheduled concert.

Music Musings

I just love the beat of the Beastie Boys' Intergalactic. It gives me a whoop whoop feeling when I'm in the car with millions of other cars surrounding me. From January I'll be needing more of these songs to escape my frustration on the road and oldskool songs are the real deal.

Wishing everyone a very Merry Christmas! Let your evenings be filled with tasty dishes, sparkling drinks and surprising presents this week!

Love,
Sabrina, x.

Music Musings

Workout song no. 1! If you see me running my heart out, you can bet your bottom dollar I'm listening to this catchy foot-tapper. Last week I even put it on repeat for 5 or 6 times to get me through my training. I liked Jennifer's music way more back then, now it's all bleh. When I think about it, I can't even name one song that she made recently. It's time to get back to basics, chica.

Give me a shout If you want some more workout music inspiration. I'm more than happy to comply ;)
Have a fruitful Monday y'all!

Music Musings

This past weekend Naomi and I went with 2 of our besties (Dorien and Debra) to Cologne. We ate a lot, visited several Christmas markets, had glühwein/hot chocolate and it was gooood. Everything themed in Christmas spirit, from the markets, streets, windows of shops and even the people. This time of year gives me an abnormal good feeling about everything. So I've opted for a seasonal song: Christmas Lights by Coldplay. A calm and joyful song with an amazing piano background

Happy Monday fashionistas!

Music Musings

Some groovy tunes to brighten this Monday. IT'S THE FIRST MONDAY OF DECEMBER YOU KNOW! Everybody seemed so excited on social media yesterday about it being December so I don't want to feel left out.

I always enjoy hearing old songs I've totally forgotten about, makes me reminisce about the simpler days. The days when I still took dancing classes and also wore badass knee patches like the dancers in this video. Bomb diggity!

Cheers!

Music Musings

This time I've chosen for a new song of One Republic 'Counting Stars'. Two songs they already brought a couple of years ago and are one of my favorites are 'Secrets' and 'Stop and Stare'. Love their lyrics and their last one, which you can listen below, is a fun and funky song to sing along in the car. And oh boy I do love Ryan Tedders voice! Enjoy the song and have a great week!

Music Musings

Music has always been an important thing in my life, I'll probably go crazy without it. This comes with another big passion of mine: dance. From the time I learned to take my first steps as a little child my feet started to move by the sound of any kind of beat. So from the year I turned 4 until I was 21 my fulltime hobby was dancing. I started with ballet, then I got the taste of it and wanted more so jazz and hiphop came along as well and finally modern ballet and modern jazz became also very interesting for me. While other high school kids enjoyed hanging around after school I was spending my after school hours at the dance school.

When I started studying at uni it became really hard for me to combine school and dancing because I had +/- 8 hours of dancing and going back and forth was getting really exhausting. And with a big knee injury on the side I had to slow down the dancing mojo. It was really difficult for me to let go and nowadays it still can be frustrating. Sometimes I give private lessons to little ones and if no one is home I start moving the furniture around in the living rooms so I can do my thing. You can hear it already, yes I watch #SYTYCD and one of my big favorites is Tamara. She dances with full energy and lots of emotion and that's just truely amazing. Yesterday she performed a short solo on Anthony and the Johnsons with their song 'Hope there's someone'. It was pure, beautiful and it gave me an immediate feeling to stand up and start dancing.

Enjoy your week and have a non-blue monday.

My visit to the Marnix & Ally showroom last week sparked a wish list. They represent a couple of eco-friendly brands which I can only applaud.

Music Musings

Bonjour lundi et bonjour le jour de congé! Hope you'll be planning a lovely day and shake that bad weather frustration off with some good music. Hardrock, Pop, Hiphop or Techno, whatever suits you. This will be my song of the day: 'Tous les mêmes' by Stromae. The belgian singer-songwriter strikes one hit after the other. To be quite honest I like his recent songs more than his older ones like the famous 'alors on danse', that wasn't really my cup of tea but this one I DO like. It has a kind of latin slash french romantic beat to it that makes my hips move unconsciously.

Enjoy your day!

Music Musings

I started this Monday waking up relaxed because I'm still not in that fase 'Damn, it's Monday. 5 more days and it's weekend again' but I secretly hope I can say this sentence quicker than I could imagine. Paradoxal if you ask me because at the same time I want to enjoy this peaceful time I'm having. #GrownupProblems.

Not a lot of songs give me goosebumps but 'If you go away' by Tout va bien manages to give me goosebumps from start to finish. This artist, Jan-Wouter, was one of the winners of 'De nieuwe lichting 2013'-contest. It was held by one of the biggest radio stations of Belgium: Studio Brussel. A new, fresh twenty something in the music scene that will amaze us with more greatness, I'll tell you that. Nothing more to say except for: close your eyes, listen and enjoy.

Positive vibes and have a good week!

Music Musings

Got the Monday blues? Nothing better than a good old tune to lift up your spirits. Anyone who's reading this without ever having danced spasmodically to this song (or Britney Spears in general for that matter), can click away right now, I mean it. The rest can enjoy some fine Britney tunes, sing it!

P.S.: Did you recognize our young Entourage friend? Always so funny to encounter celebrities in old songs, movies, series,... Did anyone actually see the movie 'Drive me crazy'?

Cheers!

COIF/LIFE

I'm catching up! This event took place only - ahum - three weeks ago. Being the daughter of a hairdresser, I immediately mailed for an invitation when I heard about the event via Media Mania. I always loved walking around hair expos with my mum and colleagues when I was little. So much crazy hairstyles and new hypes I discovered there. Take for example spray tan, more than 10 years ago you could already test it out on hair/beauty expos. I'm pretty sure that my fascination for eccentric hair colours and styles stems from all of these wonderful expos and shows.

#Antwerpfashionfestival2013

Time flies, especially when you're out exploring Antwerp and meeting up with friends. If there was any doubt before, now I'm 100% sure my next residence will be located in A-town. A month ago (yikes) my beloved city organized a fashion festival. We can only applaud a weekend filled with fashion and friends. Many thanks to Marnix & Ally for all of their hard work and for inviting us to the chic kick off of the festival. If you want, because what else is there to do on a Sunday evening, you can read some top-notch reports by my fellow bloggers: The Ginger Diaries, Archistas, Bags & Chocolate, Golden Mirrors & Pink Bows, Anouk meets Fashion, ...

What about my report? I decided to talk a little about two (jewellery) brands that stood out for me. Don't worry, I also included a dozen of pictures.

Dress your room.

Finally another post! You sense overcompensation with this overload of pictures? Correct. I wanted to show you bits and pieces of my room (and apparently a lot of them). Last year was the last time I could go full-on girly since the next rooms I'll be decorating will be in accordance with my mister. When we moved into our current house, about 7 years ago, I went all Bollywood. My walls were dark red, orange and pink. I kid you not. I had incense, Buddha figurines, and many more oriental decorations all over the place. After a couple of years, surprise surprise, I grew tired of my oriental temple and last year I decided the time had come for a total makeover. I went for pinks, whites and greys. Boy, was it hard to paint over my dark walls! But I like my room so much more now with these light colours (and new furniture). I hope you like it too ☺.

If you're still the only one making all the decisions, now is the time to dress your room!
