I've been browsing, and not the usual suspects this time. My current subject of interest: the AW2015 collection of People Tree. Never heard of this fair trade clothing brand? Keep on reading, folks. It will undoubtedly spark your interest!
Let me first start off with this:
"For every beautiful garment People Tree makes, there's an equally beautiful change happening somewhere in the world. When you wear People Tree, you look good and feel good knowing your unique garment was made with respect for people and the planet." (People Tree - Our Story)
That should already be enough to convince you of the magnificence this brand exudes, but let me elaborate a bit more. Every garment People Tree produces, consists of one 100% sustainable material that was carefully put together by traditional skills, supporting rural communities. The brand has been working together with people in developing countries for over twenty years, to produce ethical and eco fashion of the highest quality. They're also pioneers in the development of an integrated supply chain for organic cotton, from farm to final product. Not a hint of toxic, synthetic or non-biodegradable materials in sight. What a brand. ♡
We need to step away from fast fashion, with their truly devastating effects. Are those cheap garments and accessories really worth the cost they have on the world? Fast fashion fuels sweatshops, child labour, pollution, global warming and so on. I know that's easily forgotten and I'm the first one to admit that I too am guilty of supporting these practices as a consumer. But I'm trying my best to make a change for the better, one clothing piece at a time. Are you?
Insider tip: you can browse/buy People Tree and many other eco brands at Supergoods (Mechelen) and Today is a good day (Antwerp/Ghent).
